Days after Pittsburgh Pirates ace Gerrit Cole told reporters that he did not believe the Cubs are currently the best team in baseball, the outspoken pitcher has doubled down on his statement, adding that he does not feel the sun is the best star in the solar system, Michael Jordan is neither the greatest basketball player or Chicago Bulls player of all time, and that the first Die Hard was not the best film in that series.

Speaking to reporters, Cole added, “Listen, I get that my statement about the Cubs’ position as the best team in the nation may have ruffled a few feathers, but I’m not going to back down from what I said. I’m a very good evaluator of talent. I believe the best team in the league right now are the Braves, I think that Augie Ojeda is the best baseball player of all time, and Joey Fatone was the best member of NSYNC.  That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.”

As of publication, the Cubs are currently 6.5 games ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the standings, and 18 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves.
