When Barry Sanders retired just 10 seasons into his Hall of Fame career, shocked Lions fans took decades to recover. Now 14 years after Sanders called it abruptly quits, the last lingering Lions fan who’d been hoping the running back would return finally gave up on the dream.

“I just always felt like Barry would eventually return, but now that he’s 44 I guess it’s time for me to finally give up on that dream,” said Franklin Rogalski of Novi. “I suppose I’ll spend my time obsessing over other unlikely premises like Javhid Best ever healing from concussions or Ndamukong Suh being able to drive down the street and not get into a road rage incident.”
