As Thursday night’s insanely entertaining World Series Game 6 came to a close, many said the only thing preventing it from having been the best game ever was the TV commentary of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. One viewer lucky enough to watch the game on mute — devoid of McCarver and Buck —  believed he had just witnessed the greatest sporting event of all time.

“My baby finally fell asleep next to me so I couldn’t dare to turn on the volume,” said Felix McNerny of rural Nebraska minutes after St. Louis closed out its stirring 10-9 comeback win over Texas in the 11th inning. “I can only imagine how great it must have been to hear how two of baseball’s most experienced TV announcers added to the suspense of each moment with what I assume to have been intelligent and unbiased calls.”
