Chicago Mayor Richard Daley approved a 25 percent city tax the week on the purchase of any lanyard, including those used as passes by Cubs fans at the team’s annual convention held this weekend.

“This is ridiculous,” said Ed Benson, a die-hard Cubs fan who drove several hours to attend the convention. “The actual price of admission was bad enough, but now I’m being taxed for wearing this thing around my neck?”

Next year might be even worse for fans like Benson, who already feel overtaxed. Daley may consider taxing additional items popular with Cubs fans, including oversized foam Cubbie claws, red and blue facepaint, and Old Style king cans.
