Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel today congratulated the Cubs on their NL Central Division title and amazing 2016 run, adding that he was especially thankful the baseball team is deflecting attention away from the city’s soaring murder rate, among its many other problems.

“A great deal of people in Chicago and around the country and even globally have been talking incessantly for quite some time about the senseless violence plaguing our city as well as our soaring taxes, failing schools and crippling budget shortfalls,” said Emanuel. “It’s nice that so many people are now instead focusing on the Cubs.”

Added Emanuel: “I know this isn’t going to last forever, but apparently it’s too much to ask of the Bears that they not suck. Let’s just hope the Blackhawks have a bounce-back year.”
