Pete Sanderson could hardly contain himself as he watched the Cubs celebrate their 2016 NL Central title on TV after school Friday afternoon.

“I’ve waited my whole entire life for this moment,” said the 7-year-old Sanderson, a second-grader at Blaine Elementary just a few blocks from Wrigley Field. “This means more to me than anything in the world right now, even recess or playing with my dad’s iPad.”

The Cubs last won the NL Central in 2008, a year before Sanderson was born. He said he hoped the Cubs would continue on and win the World Series.

“If I have to wait another seven years for something like that there’s no way I’ll still be a Cubs fan. I gave up on Pokémon Go after two weeks so I’d definitely give up on the Cubs way sooner than my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents have.”
