The Bears today announced Robbie Gould has been signed to a four-year contract extension and will be moved to quarterback next season.

“Robbie is one of the most prolific scorers in Bears history, so he’s clearly a guy who knows how to put points on the board,” said GM Phil Emery. “That’s the kind of mentality we need under center and since we had no real clue who will be our QB next year, we’re considering the problem solved.”

Emery said Gould had no experience at the position but since coach Marc Trestman is widely regarded as a “quarterback whisperer” there was no cause for concern.

“Pretty much anybody could throw for 250 yards a game with the receiving corps we’ve got,” said Emery. “I mean, look at that hack we’ve been putting out there much of the season. And even McCown is doing well.”
