A number of exciting surprises are part of the Chicago Cubs’ tentative 2014 schedule announced on the team’s website.

The season kicks off on April 4 at Wrigley Field against Horner Park Little League BLUE followed by a three game series with Horner Park Little League RED. The club’s first road trip takes them to Schaumburg to face the Renegades, who won the Northwest Suburban League in 2013 with a record of 55-2.

On the 4th of July, the Cubs travel to Thillens Stadium on Devon Avenue for a day-night double-header against interleague rival Team Victory. In the longest road trip of the season, the Cubs take the Pace bus south to face Mokena, Crete and Lake County, Indiana to face the Hobart Heat.

“No doubt about it, we’re in for a tough next year. Trying to avoid losing 100 games again will be a big challenge,” manager Dale Sveum said. “What’s worse is that we play in the most competitive division in the league with 18 games each against Highland Park Elite, the Skokie Indians and Northbrook Force.”

Sveum said the team needs to make several adjustments in spring training.

“Moving to 60-foot bases and a 54-foot mound will be no simple task. It will make it even harder for us to get to Williamsport for the World Series next August.”
