While the holiday isn’t intended to honor presidents from the private sector, Bears President Ted Phillips decided he would honor Presidents’ Day by showing up for work for only the fourth time so far this year Monday.

“Well, I know it’s a national holiday and all, but I figured I might as well grace Halas Hall with my presence,” said Phillips. “I hadn’t been in since we hired that guy from the Chiefs to be the new GM, so today seemed like a great time to come on in and check my mail and whatever else this team pays me to do.”

Phillips said he was disappointed to learn the team’s regular operations were suspended for the holiday.

“At first I was upset to see no one else walking around the office,” said Phillips, “but then I remembered I was the one who made that day a holiday in the first place and it’s not like I could hold myself accountable for a decision, could I?”
