Former Cubs GM Jim Hendry announced today the signing of Bob Howry to a two-year, $15 million contract.

“We think Bob’s still got gas in the tank, and at $15 mil for two years, frankly it’s a steal,” said Hendry from his office, reminiscent of a scene from A Beautiful Mind. “And to be honest, when compared to some of my other deals, this has to rank among the top three.”

Reached this morning at home, Howry was stunned but ecstatic.

“All I can say right now is thanks to Jim and the entire Cubs organization,” remarked the veteran reliever. “I am thrilled to be rejoining [former Cubs skipper Mike] Quade and [former Cubs pitching coach Larry] Rothschild and all the guys. I can’t wait to get to Spring Training.”

“It’s only a few weeks until pitchers and catchers report,” mused Hendry. “Adding a quality arm like Bob puts the finishing touch on our staff for 2012. Cub fans will not be disappointed.”
