Ernie Banks’ 80th birthday party celebration at Harry Caray’s Saturday night was attended by, among others, the same couple who famously crashed President Obama’s first White House State Dinner in November 2009. For another attendee, former White House Social Secretary Desirée Rogers, the sight of the couple at the Cubs legend’s gala was not quite déjà vu.

“I’ve moved on since then and work for a new employer,” Rogers said while attending the party. “I have no idea how those crashers got in, nor is it of my concern.”

Tareq and Michaele Salahi said that they have emails to prove they had a right to attend Banks’ party.

“I am certain we’ll be completely exonerated,” Mr. Salahi said. “Why, here’s a printout of an email my wife wrote me suggesting that we attend Ernie Banks’ birthday party. And here’s a printout of my email reply to my wife saying I think it’s a great idea.”

Mrs. Salahi said that the American public is actually going to be extremely surprised with all the details that went from beginning to end into what was supposed to be a lovely, beautiful evening and a lifetime memory.

“I even got my photo taken with Ernie,” said Mrs. Salahi. “And that proves he wanted us as his party because I’m pretty sure he was on a first-name basis with every single person who showed up that night, even if he never met them before.”
