Not too long ago Derrek Lee was the anchor of a promising Cubs squad that lead the NL in wins. Now after verbally agreeing to a one-year contract with the lowly Orioles, Lee’s on the verge of obscurity after sulking his way to a mediocre 2010 campaign with the Cubs and Braves.

“Let’s be honest, here. There’s not a lot of interest in a 35-year-old player with diminishing skills and a constant frown,” said Lee. “I’m surprised any team in the league wanted my services, even if it’s just for one year.”

Lee said he was well aware of the writing on the wall after signing with the Orioles, who haven’t had a winning season since 1997.

“If I were a one-time successful actor this would be the equivalent of doing a low-budget porn,” said Lee. “But hey, just like in porn, at least it pays.”
