A funny thing happened on Addison Russell’s way to Triple-A Iowa: He wound up in Nebraska.

“I guess I wasn’t paying attention to the road signs,” said Russell — who recently admitted to missing signs on the bases and at the plate. “I guess it’s really important to pay closer attention to things like that.”

Russell said he didn’t realize he wound up over-shooting his destination by several hours until he got a call from his manager to check in on him.

“Joe has been really supportive so he just wanted to see how I was doing with my demotion,” said Russell. “I told him I’d finally reached Nebraska and he helped me figure out my mistake.”

Russell said he made good time on his way back to Des Moines and expected to be missing signs on the bases and at the plate with the Cubs’ minor league club in no time.
