Joe Girardi has decided to stay with the New York Yankees, signing a four-year extension to manage the club through 2017. Girardi admitted Wednesday afternoon that he re-signed with New York just so he didn’t have to manage the Chicago Cubs.

“The pressure on me from friends and family in Illinois to take the Cubs job was relentless, and my wife had me nuts,” Girardi told the MSG Network.

“I would have taken a bullpen coach job with the Tabasco Banana Growers of the Mexican League before I’d manage the Cubs.”
