For longtime Cubs fans it’s hard to believe that there has been night baseball at Wrigley Field for 25 years with the first game played on August 8, 1988.

While the ball club did nothing special to celebrate the silver anniversary team Chairman Tom Ricketts told Cubs.com the club finally paid the electric bill, 25 years overdue because of a mix-up with previous owner Tribune Company.

“We kept getting these light bills in the mail addressed to a ‘Dallas Green, Tribune,’ so I just forwarded them to some post office box in Uptown,” Ricketts said. “It wasn’t until all the hoopla about the renovation of Wrigley Field did we find out we were supposed to pay it.”

According to Ricketts, “The original bill was for about $250, but with interest accrued, we had to write a check for $938,261.47.”
