In a year filled with terrible blunders, the Cubs have erred yet again. In January, the Ricketts family asked local sculptor Rico Rodriguez to make a bronze statue of Ronnie. Not knowing much about baseball, the young artist Googled images and video of “Cubs” and “Ronnie” and he ended up sculpting a statue of Ronnie “Woo Woo” Wickers.

“It’s entirely our fault” said Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts. “I guess we never did give a last name. We just assumed the sculptor would know.”

“Everywhere I looked for a photo or video of this ‘Ronnie’ had this crazy man wearing a Cubs jersey and saying ‘Woo’,” Rodriguez said. “I thought it was weird at first, but even ESPN had a page dedicated to him, so I assumed he was the guy.”

“I can almost hear dad sighing from heaven,” said Jeff Santo of his father’s favorite thing to do on the radio. “I’m sure he’s looking on and saying ‘Oh No! The Cubs dropped the ball!'”

Most fans who looked on at Wednesday’s unveiling ceremony were horrified, except for one who was quoted as saying “I WOO! got a statue WOO!”
