With a huge upset of top-seeded Kansas over the weekend, the Bulls advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA basketball tournament. Jubilant players hugged each other and celebrated the unlikely win over No. 1 Kansas.

“We knew if we just played hard, we could compete with them,” said Derrick Rose, who made a similar run when he supposedly went to school at Memphis two years ago. That team made it all the way to the national championship game before losing to the Jayhawks.

“It’s big revenge for me,” Rose added.

Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro liked his team’s chances going forward.

“I think we got a chance to make the Final Four,” he said. “It’s been great preparation playing teams like the Nets and the Wizards every night. But now we’re going to be playing teams like Kentucky and Syracuse. They have potentially three to four future NBA players on their rosters. It’s a whole different game.”

Del Negro said he was also excited for the Bulls to play UConn’s women’s team for the national championship in a few weeks.
