White Sox GM Kenny Williams’ plan to cut DeWayne Wise was delayed one day after the struggling outfielder made an amazing HR-saving ninth-inning catch that preserved Mark Buehrle’s perfect game Thursday afternoon.

“It’s no secret DeWayne hasn’t been contributing at a level required of a big league ballplayer,” said Williams of Wise who was batting .196 going into the game. “Now that he made the play of the season for us, I guess I should wait until tomorrow to cut him.”

Wise — who has yet to be informed of his impending release — felt his catch solidified his spot on the team for the rest of the season.

“I know I’ve been on shaky ground,” said Wise. “But there’s no way Kenny would cut me now, right?”
