The film "Moneyball" opens this weekend and is already receiving rave reviews from critics across the country, despite a major factual error that depicts the Oakland A's winning the 2002 World Series over the Giants in highly dramatic, walk-off fashion.
Earlier this week, the Oakland A's swooped in and basically stole coveted Cuban sensation OF Yoenis Cespedes, who accepted a four-year, $36 million deal. Of the teams apparently interested in signing him (the Cubs, White Sox, Marlins and Tigers among them) the Athletics were the surprise winner.
Todd Shaw admittedly hadn't watched an Oakland A's game in six years. He assumed nothing had changed outside of wins and losses.
The Oakland A's have refused to pay their annual $1.2 million rent for their stadium. Some have speculated that the refusal of payment is because of the financial struggles caused by the coronavirus pandemic, but Oakland’s owner, John J. Fisher cleared things up to reporters Thursday.
