After a headbutted goal in the second overtime of last night’s 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks was waved off as a rule violation, Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw, who previously scored an overtime goal off his shin pads to win Game 1 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Championship, has promised that all future goals will be scored with his stick or his shin pads, since he has never had a goal waved off when scored with either of those pieces of equipment.

“Listen, we all know that I love shin pads,” Shaw said at a press conference. “And typically you’d want to score with a hockey stick. But last night I learned that, as cool as it might look, you can’t just headbutt goals and hope for them to count. No, you have to shoot the puck with your stick or, barring that, push the puck into the net using your shin pads in order to actually get up on the scoreboard for your team.”

While Shaw has sworn off trying to knock any future goals in with his head, he did say he might try to hip-thrust a puck into the net during Game 3 to see if the refs would let that slide.
