Lovie Smith was named head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers giving the former Bears head man a second chance to miss the playoffs five times in the next six years.

“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity,” Smith said in an introductory press conference. “To take this team to water, then not allow them to drink is something I greatly look forward to.”

Known for being a defensive minded coach, Smith plans to sign several of his former Bears players, including DB’s Al Alfalava and Adam Archuleta, and DT Jarron Gilbert.

When asked what he’ll do to strengthen his offense during a time when NFL teams are setting scoring records, Smith said, “We’ll get off the bus running. In fact, we’ve just signed Chester Taylor and Cedric Benson.”
