A caller to the Chicago sports radio station “The Score,” thought to be Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts, asked several questions about what’s going on with the ball club during the off-season.

Identifying himself as “Tom from Winnetka,” the caller asked Les Grobstein, the station’s overnight host, for an update on what the team has done so far in the off season.

“Is it true the Cubs took a guy off waivers with a 2-13 record and an ERA of over 6.00?” Ricketts asked, referring to Liam Hendriks, a pitcher the team claimed from the Twins.

The always-informed Grobstein confirmed the transaction and added that the ball club also grabbed catcher Charles Cutler in the Rule 5 draft, dealt outfielder Brian Bogusevic, and named Ron Coomer new radio analyst.

“Gee,” the caller said. “Have they spent a lot of money? Oh, and is that Epstein guy still running the team?”
