White Sox 8, Orioles 3
At Camden Yards
Tuesday, Aug. 26
Gavin Floyd is from the Baltimore area and undoubtedly had many friends and family in attendance for his start on Tuesday night. Since there only appeared to be about three dozen people in the crowd, Gavin must have used the positive energy from playing almost exclusively in front of relatives as he powered the Sox to the win.
Sox at the plate
Carlos Quentin drove in 100 runs in a season for the first time in his career thanks to a fourth inning double. Nick Swisher hit his 22nd home run of the season, and later warned that if he gets to 30 this year, "things are gonna get really dirty!"
Sox on the mound
Floyd picked up his 14th win of the season, which equals the most wins Kerry Wood ever got in one year. Seriously.
Orioles at the plate
Melvin Mora had the night off for the Orioles. Of course he’s the father of quintuplets, so I don't think he really ever has a night off when the team's not on the road.
Orioles on the mound
The Sox were able to get to Baltimore starter Brian Burres and his porn-star mustache. Randor Bierd -- who is clean-shaven -- came on in relief.
Number of the game: "8, 9, 10, or more"
Consecutive years Hawk Harrelson feels Quentin will have driving in at least 100 runs. Apparently in his over 50 years of baseball Hawk has never heard of a career year.
Quote of the game
"180 degrees was the turnaround." -- Harrelson, sounding like another wise sage -- Yoda -- describing how the Twins once almost came back in a blowout game and it changed the course of Minnesota's season. I not quite sure what it had to do with the game Hawk was announcing.
Next up for the Sox
Johnny Danks looks to rebound from a nasty loss against Tampa as he starts in Baltimore at 6:05 Wednesday.
