White Sox 9, Royals 2

At US Cellular Field

Thursday, August 14

Jim Thome, Paul Konerko, Alexi Ramirez and Juan Uribe homered consecutively in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, the Sox only have three games left against the Royals this season.

Konerko also stole a base. The box score will say he stole the bag against pitcher Kyle Davies and catcher John Buck, but when Konerko steals a base, really everyone is to blame.

Sox on the mound

Lance Broadway made his second career start and pitched around bad defense to limit the damage in the first inning. Three other relievers not named Dotel, Thornton or Jenks closed out the game.

Royals at the plate

Who cares?

Number of the game: 6

Straight games Carlos Quentin has been hit by a pitch. If he were on the opposing team, don't you think Ozzie Guillen would order a pitcher to throw one in his ear, to show him how it really feels to get hit by a pitch?

Quote of the game

"Wild, Wild West." -- Sox announcer Darrin Jackson, rapping the refrain to either the '80s hit by Escape Club or the Will Smith remake. The reference had something to do with first base umpire Bill Hohn's mustache. In DJ's defense, this nonsense took place during the part of the sixth inning when Hawk leaves to get a sandwich.

Next up for the Sox

The Comcast SportsNet promo for the upcoming series in Oakland claims, "The Sox will prove who the real athletes are." CSN isn't even trying anymore.
