At halftime of the Bears and 49ers game Oct. 29, Mayor Richard Daley, team President and CEO Ted Phillips and representatives of the Chicago Park District will mark the third anniversary of the Soldier Field renovation still being ugly. A grand celebration is scheduled, with all fans in attendance receiving commemorative touchdown towels honoring the title of "Number One Ugliest Stadium in America."

"The large steel toilet bowl dropped into the Parthenon design for the new Soldier Field has set the precedent for all future stadiums," said Steven Cohen of Wood + Zapata, Inc., the firm primarily responsibility for the architectural design. "The Chicago shoreline has never looked worse."

While many visitors have criticized the "spaceship-like" appearance, Mayor Daley is still raving about the stadium's modern appeal.

"If Frank Lloyd Wright would have designed a football stadium for the fans of Chicago, I imagine it would have looked just like the new Soldier Field," said Daley. "I envision a similar look for the proposed Olympic Stadium in Washington Park."
