The Minnesota Vikings and women's active wear marketer Activa announced a five-year deal to outfit the team with its purple tops and spandex pants. The Vikings originally unveiled new threads from Reebok in April but because players complained those uniforms were "too rugged," the team switched to Activa.
Quarterback Brad Johnson, cornerback Antoine Winfield and defensive tackle Pat Williams modeled the Activa uniforms Tuesday.
"I know we won our first two games in the other uniforms, but they were too itchy," said Johnson. "The purple hues of the Activa uniforms are much more fabulous than the Reebok jerseys, too."
Larger players like defensive and offensive linemen complained the old Reebok pants limited their flexibility.
"I like the way the Activa spandex feels on my legs," the 300-pound Williams raved. "The beautiful purple color is just a bonus, even if a lot of people think purple is a color old ladies wear to church."
Despite being excited about his new uniform, Winfield was afraid he might ruin it playing a physical team like the Bears.
"I don't know how I'm going to tackle when I'm so worried about one of their players tearing my blouse … I mean, jersey," Winfield said. "But I don't care. We look pretty."
