While the Cubs' magical season came to an abrupt end after a flat playoff performance, not everyone in Cubdom is feeling blue. John Murray -- hawker of the ubiquitous "It's Gonna Happen" signs held by everyone even remotely blocking your view of a game at Wrigley the last two seasons -- thinks the future is bright.
"I make these signs for 50 cents and sell them for $10 a pop," said Murray. "Did you see all the fans with them this year? Every year the Cubs come close but don't win it all is a good year for me. Here's hoping we can do it again in '09."
Murray previously gained fame for attempting to attack Cubs reliever Randy Myers after he gave up a homer in a meaningless 1995 game. Now he's making money outside the stadium hawking his "It's Gonna Happen"
"I'll admit I was a little disappointed the Cubs didn't win the Series this year," said Murray. "I already started production on 100,000 'It's Gonna Happen Again!' and 'It's Gonna Happen Even Better Than Last Year!' signs. Guess I'll just have to hold on to them for another day."
