Cubs outfielder Sam Fuld is preparing for the upcoming baseball season by running repeatedly into a brick wall, the 26-year-old confirmed early Monday.

Fuld--whose brief Major League stint in 2007 featured a highlight-reel catch where he smashed violently into Wrigley Field’s outfield fence--is reportedly expecting more high-speed collisions in 2008.

"
People who witnessed that dangerous, dare-devil like grab I made last year tell me that I'd better keep it up if I want to retain my roster spot," said Fuld. "So I've been practicing--a lot."

Fuld—who is reportedly in a battle over the starting center field job with Felix Pie--said he has scrapped his usual training regimen of batting practice, throwing, running, and weight training in favor of "just sprinting down the driveway and banging myself silly against the side of my garage."

According to Fuld, his only concern is that he keeps getting hurt.

"
I don't get it," said Fuld, shrugging his shoulders, one of which is in a sling. "I mean, you'd think that after like the thousandth collision, I'd have learned how to contort my body so that the shoulder would stop popping out of the socket. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to keep trying until I get it right."
