Golden State coach says Festus Ezeli greatest center since Bill Russell

Comparing any current player to a Hall of Famer comes under scrutiny, but when making parallels to an all-time great, more than one eyebrow is raised.

“Festus Ezeli is the best center this league has seen since Bill Russell ruled the boards in the NBA,” Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson said after the team’s recent playoff victory over San Antonio.

“Ezie’s potential to be an even better player than Russell is unbelievable. The kid didn’t even know what a basketball was until he was 15 years old and now he is on the verge of stardom,” Jackson said of the Nigerian-born pivot man.

Reminded that during the 2012-13 season Ezeli averaged just 2.4 points and 4 rebounds per game compared to Russell’s lifetime game averages of 15.1 points and 22.5 rebounds, Jackson said, “Of course he did. If I balled against the same collection of stiffs as Russell, like Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor, I’d have averaged 50 points and 30 rebounds.”

After dropping their second game is as many nights, the Lakers dream team is currently 0-2 and flopping away this young season, ranking as the worst of California’s four NBA squads.

“Yeah, it’s been tougher than we thought,” said Kobe Bryant. “But we know that if we hang in there we’ll eventually get better than Sacramento. And after that, maybe even Golden State.”

Added Bryant: “The Clippers? I’m not so sure we’ll catch them this year. Just being real here.”

The Bulls’ playoff hopes were crushed Monday night after a disappointing loss to the Warriors in Oakland dropped their record to 1-1 on the season.

“It’s disappointing but we had a great run,” said PG Derrick Rose. “I’ll never forget that great comeback win we had against the Lakers a day earlier in the season opener.”

Sexual harrassment suit forces Monta Ellis to play defense for first time ever

Monta Ellis was named in a sexual harassment suit Wednesday, forcing the Warriors guard to play defense for the first time in his career. Ellis said he was concerned that not being able to take control offensively would be a new, uneasy position for him.

“On the basketball court I’m lobbing up 20 to 25 shots a game so I don’t have to worry about playing defense,” said Ellis. “But in this case they’re the ones who are lobbing shots my way, but instead of shots, it’s damning evidence like copies unsolicited cell phone photos of my penis that I sent to a woman who worked for the team until she got canned for reporting me.”

The accuser, Erika Smith, claims she was fired by the team after reporting Ellis’s frequent and unsolicited advances to management. Ellis says he was confused by Smith’s title for the Warriors, where she served as the team’s head of community relations.

“I had no idea was community relations meant, but I assumed it meant she was available for sexual relations with men in the community, myself included,” said Ellis. “Being a natural scorer I am, I went on the offensive. But now here I am, asked to play defense for the first time ever, and let me tell you one thing: Playing defense sucks.”
