The Bulls today announced the hiring of Doug Collins as a senior advisor of basketball operations and — perhaps more importantly — as a backup shooting guard.

While the former GM and respected TV analyst is expected to provide some much-needed insight in the front office, it’s the Bulls roster where he might have the most impact.

“At 66, we expect Doug’s game will have a little rust, but when you look at our roster, it’s not unrealistic to think he can come in and compete for some minutes,” said Bulls VP of basketball operations John Paxson. “He was a first-round pick and three-time All-Star. That’s more success than most of our roster has had, and we know he’s more durable than [Dwyane] Wade.”
