A euphoric Chicago City Council, in a unanimous vote of 50-0, renamed the Lincoln Park Lagoon “Junior Lake” after the Cubs rookie center fielder, who made a spectacular Major League debut with a three-hit game.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a huge Cubs fan, who pressured alderman to act quickly to bestow the honor, released a statement saying, “Now is the time to recognize Junior Lake before he becomes Brett Jackson or Gary Scott.”

Other measures under consideration by the council include calling Ashland Avenue “Minnie Minoso Boulevard,” and changing the name of Humboldt Park to the “Patrick Kane Play Lot.”

One alderman proposed renaming a south side landfill, “The Tom Tunney Garbage Dump.”
