Alshon Jeffery’s hand injury has prompted Bears coach Lovie Smith to move Lance Briggs from linebacker to wide receiver.

“Lance is our wide receiver,” said Smith. “He’s been a valuable member of our defense, but it’s time he takes his skill to the offense where we really need him right now.”

Smith said he and offensive coordinator Mike Tice decided to move Briggs to wideout after he scored his second pick-six in as many games Sunday, out-sprinting Jacksonville’s entire offense to the end zone.

“We think Lance will make a great addition to offense seeing has how he as more touchdowns then most of the receivers anyway,” said Tice. “He’s clearly faster than most of our first-time guys on offense.”

When asked how he felt about about getting to play with Jay Cutler and the offense Briggs just shrugged, “Offense sounds fun, I think I can do it. I just want to keep the captain’s C on my jersey.”
